Bumbles’ Place of Honour
Father Christmas will share his place of honour with Bumbles McGregor in the Kaiapoi procession this Saturday. Bumbles made a place for himself in Kaiapoi’s history as the hero of a promotion held by the Businessmen’s Association. Bumbles McGregor is an old English sheepdog, bom , at a Rangiora kennels 15 i months ago. His name is I derived from a television character, Bumper the policeman. I Bumbles spent May in Kaiapoi, visiting schools ! and being the subject of ! advertising and various I competitions. With the aid of the borough council’s hoist, his weight was established as 38 kg. His first birthday party in August was an exciting, noisy, public affair for about 250 children and adults in the community centre. The association’s president (Mr Gary Cattermole) says the dog had created wide interest and the
benefits of the promotion had gone far beyond financial gain. Expressing his organisation’s appreciation to Mr Richard Palmer, Bumbles’
motion organiser, Mr Cattermole said the dog had developed a personality that attracted adults as well as children.
