New driver tests?
PA Wellington A revised system of driver-training and testing for drivers’ licences has been recommended to the council of the New Zealand Automobile Association. The recommendations were contained in a report on “The young driver,’’! presented by a sub-com-mittee of the council. It said: “The committee! was persuaded that young! drivers were at present in-I adequately prepared for the I driving test by the existing! driver-training and driving-; testing procedures, and that! it would be more appro-! priate to induce a high stan-| dard of performance by the| first licence rather than I endeavour to obtain it later.” The committee recom- ! mended a system of pre-1 licence training, including a I learner’s permit requirement! and a standard syllabus for! driving instruction.
