Unemployment
Sir, — Once again Social workers. as professional malcontents, come out defending the unemployed. They overlook reality in that unemployment is now an economic fact of life. An employer, myself, I fully endorse the Governments moves. Some of those on the benefit have never had it better. More than two-thirds
of the signatories to the letter (“The Press,” November 27) are with the Probation Service. These people seem more concerned with political embarrassment of their employer and the Government than practical assistance. Last Saturday showed widespread support" for Government policy so why don’t these “social workers” get on with curbing crime and assisting the police in their task. They are only public servants meant to serve the public. What does the Justice Department Head think of his staff entering the political arena not as individuals but using one another for support? — Yours, B. S. YOUNG. November 28, 1978.
