Cracked wall big worn
A Lyttelton resident is worried about a high retaining wall supporting Selwyn Street which has subsided at an alarming rate in recent months, opening up gaps in the wall on the boundary of his property. Mr Neale Rosanoski says that no great imagination is required to predict a complete collapse of the wall on to the rear of his house. He says he has taken all prudent measures and advised his insurance company. He tried to convince people of the danger even before another retaining wall, that above Sutton Quay, collapsed on October 23. A study by the North Canterbury Catchment Board has confirmed Mr Rosanoski’s tears. The board’s report, summarised in “The Press” yesterday, said that much of Lyttelton Borough was a definite risk as far as soil stability was concerned.
