Music awards made
Big Daddy and Little Wil, of Dunedin, won the South Island Country Award Scroll' 1978 in the Island country music awards held at Christchurch on Sunday. It was the third successive year that the music awards have been staged by the Modern Country Music Club of Christchurch. This year the event was held at the Repertory Theatre. The contestants totalled
107, compared with 62 in 1976, and 86 in 1977. Winners of the individual | sections were: Junior, Tracy : Gardyne (Christchurch); solo . writing, Ken White (Dunedin); old time,. Smokey Marshall (Christchurch); duet, Big Daddy and Little Wil (Dunedin); top female vocalist, Joanne Hawkey : (Christchurch); top male vocalist, Peter Scott (Timaru); and ton group. Rocky River 1 Country Group (Timaru).
