Inter-island ferry

Sir, — In reply to -M. Lodge (November 2) I agree the Rangatira was not well catronised over the last few months but. one can see a reason for this. Any service that is “running down” does not attract customers and the ferry service had been “running down” ever since the loss of the Wahine. A ferry between Lyttelton arid Wellington must, above all else be regular and constant each night, each way also on Sundays. M, Lodge mentions having a stateroom: why does the management consider it necessary to have such luxury for a 10-hour journey? Why have a bar? Why have lounges? Use this space for more cars, passengers and cargo. Less crew on the ships: use the space to earn dollars. The member of Parliament for Lyttelton and the Minister of Transport should have some vision and make Lyttelton an active, viable and vital port. Thirty years ago it was so and' could be again. — Yours, etc., GUY K GOLDSBROUGH. Methven. November 3, 1978.
