Sir, —- I heartily endorse Bishop Pyatt’s sentiments regarding TV interviewers highlighting personal tragedy m the news programme. Apparently sensitivity to a person’s deep feelings is not in the. curriculum of the institutions where these men and women announcers do their training, but 1 think it is high time it Was. — Yours, etc., (Mrs) ETHEL SOTHERAN. Sir, — May I add mv voice to Hazel Kenny’s in very strong protest against, the' screening of last week’s episode of "I Claudius.’ I too was sickened and shocked by what I saw and will not be watching this programme again. It is a sad commentary on our society that the depicting of atrocities such as. these should be regarded as entertainment. — Yours, etc., ELAINE CAMM, November 6, 1978. Sir, — The Bishop of Christchurch (November 6) really got his gaiters in a twis' over “I Claudius.” Does the reverend gentleman mean to convey that he knoweth not what the film was about? Can he not switch to the alternative channel? I do not think Television One would offend him — but if it did, he should follow the advice given in his Bible regarding that which offends him should be cut off. His snide remarks regarding a very popular lady announcer are not worthy of his office and I strongly recommend his meditation on - Matthew V,7. — Yours, etc., ARTHUR MAY. Rangiora. November 6, 1978.
