Forum vessel rescheduled

The Pacific Forum Line l has rescheduled its vessel Tauloto II and the new port rotation will now be Lyttelton, Auckland, Suva, Port Moresby, Lae, Honiara, Tarawa, Suva and back to Lyttelton. The company says that the new schedule has been designed to give shippers a shorter transit time to Papua New Guinea as well as enabling exporters in Honiara to ship cargo southbound to New Zealand and Fiji. Recent reports about a shortage of cash flow have been described as misleading by the company. It says that ail member countries gave a commitment to the Forum! Line at the recent South Pa-( cific Forum meeting in Niue. The line reports that it has do financial problems beyond the normal establishment costs of a large scale new venture. “With the introduction Of a new roll-on. container vessel in the final quarter of 1979. the line should rapidly make ,a profit,” said a spokesman. “The support received from exporters and importers throughout the Pacific region has been most encouraging and beyond expectations,” he said. The new vessel is being financed by the Gennan Government and is due for delivery in July or August, 1979. It will be managed by Samoa Shipping Services on behalf of the Samoan Government and chartered to the Pacific Forum Line. With a planned deadweight. tonnage of 4500, the 1 new ship will carry 300 con-( fainers — including 40 re-i frigerated — its own eon-] tainer crane, and a bulk! liquid capacity of 500: tonnes. * » « That naval ships still attract a good deal of interest; regardless of their size and
