Police baffled by explosion
Christchurch detectives have been unable to find any motive for the blowing up of a telephone box at Heathcote about 11 p.m. on Sunday. The box, at the corner of Curries Road and Port Hills Road, was blown to matchwood in the blast. One person had been interviewed by the police in connection with the incident, but no arrest had been made, said Detective Senior-Sergeant A. G. I.
Rodgers, of the Christchurch C. 1.8., yesterday. “It was Guy Fawkes’ night, but we have not been able to find any motive for it,” said SeniorSergeant Rodgers. Debris from the wrecked telephone box had been sent to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research for analysis, he said. It was not known what type of explosive had been used.
