Cruelty to animals
Sir, — I fully agree with Peter Dorward. (November 4). We should be ashamed to have to add “cruelty to animals” to the endless list of “world firsts.” After talking and listening to one of our citv park rangers, I realise now how little we care and how low our tolerance is towards defenceless creatures. Some animals in New Zealand work hard all day, much harder than their masters. They’ deserve appreciation, not neglect. In the first
place, parents must give a better example to their children and teach them to care for and protect animals. Tell them to inform the S.P.C.A. if they know cases of ill treatment. — Yours, etc.,
