General Election
Sir. — So Mr George, the National candidate for Avon, considers “there is not much evidence of the Labour member’s work to be seen in the electorate” (November 2). T would point out to him that, there is even less evidence of the actual existence of a National candidate for the seat. May I suggest that National choose its candidate for 1981 a week after Labour retains the seat by default on November 25. ft is an insult to the electorate to be asked to vote for a candidate who remains silent for two years 11 months, and who then expects to attract votes by repeating phrases from the kitset of instructions issued by National for lack-lustre candidates in seats that National has no interest in. I. for one. will not vote National be-
cause quite simply I have no confidence in the candidate to represent me effectively. — Yours, etc., D, RICQUISH. November 2, 1978.
