Environmental Vanguard
Sir, — 1 read, with regret, of the death of Dr Helen Hervey. I did not know her, but in 1975 I signed a petition she was circulating to save that piece of Christchurch history 7 , the Regent Theatre. And when I came to live here, there it still w’as. How’ she loved Christchurch. She had her priorities right, her city before herself. I too, love Christchurch and would like to join the Environmental Vanguard Organisation. In Britain. any property of historical interest or example of old craftsmanship is saved by a preservation order — sometimes _ the whole building, sometimes the front only. The saving of the west end of Armagh Street would be a fitting memorial to such a dedicated woman. — Yours, etc., <Mrs) S. G. CHANNELL. November 2, 1978.
