Apprentice fined $5O

The Washdyke apprentice, A. M. Cowan, was fined $5O by the North Canterbury Racing Club’s judicial committee at Rangiora yesterday because of disputed riding engagements in two races. The horses which Cowan had been engaged to ride were Rotor in the second division of the Loburn Maiden and Prince Cicero in the Rangiora Centennial Cup, both members of K. J. O’Brien’s Blenheim stable. Instead of fulfilling those engagements he rode Ballet Dancer and Royal Dell in the respective races.

In addition to imposing the fine the judicial committee reminded Cowan’s employer, E. P. Corboy, of his responsibilities of confirming Cowan’s riding engagements.
