Australian markets continue weaker
Leading mining and industrial stocks sustained further losses yesterday as the absence of overseas orders kept the Australian markets in a depressed state. B.H.P.dropped another 18c, after being down 24c at one stage, and CSR lost 4c to 316 c. Most of the coal stocks closed weaker —- Utah lost 5c to 400 c, Thiess also 4c to 321 c, and Oakbridge 3c to 163 c. Tookeys fell 5c to 140 c and A.C.I. slipped 1c to 189 c. Among the biggest losers of the day were the uraliums. E.Z.I. lost 10c to 'loc, Peko fell 8c to 580 c, Queensland Mines shed 20c o 300 c and its parent — lathleen Investments — lost 'Bc to 240 c. Elswhere, C.R.A. lost a urther 5c in early trading o 335 c before recovering to lose at 338 c for a net loss of 2c Western Mining shed 7c io 166 c, Mount Isa eased 2c
to 236 c and Hamersley remained steady at 210 c. Central Norseman provided one of the few bright spots of the day’s trading with a gain of 16c to $l4 56 I in the strength of the firmer gold price.
