Repeal as election issue
Sir, — Electors residing in the Papanui or Yaldhurst electorates who in signing the Repeal petition innocently gave their address, may be surprised to open their front door to be confronted by uninvited ladies from Repeal. Their mission is to persuade the hapless interviewee and family not to vote for the distinguished sitting member. This is a misuse of information and an unwarranted invasion of privacy. The Repeal organisation is now
directly engaged in unseating respected members of Parliament. The credibility and loyalty of those Parliamentarians who set up and continue to support this organisation is now seriously in question. How can they be loyal to their party and colleagues while their Repeal organisation works for the downfall of their alleged friends? Politicians mesmerised by the charms of Repeal may receive the kiss of political death. — Yours, etc., K. ORR October 21, 1978.
