Wee Win picked for Hannon Memorial

Special correspondent Dunedin Wee Win, which has performed admirably in his four starts this season, looks a sound prospect in the Hannon Memorial Handicap at the Oamaru Trotting Club’s meeting today. Wee Win has not raced since September 19, when he finished third to Rocky Tryax and Palestine in the O. Hutchinson Free-for-all at the New Brighton- meeting but he has been seen to advantage at trials in the interim. He earlier won the National Handicap, was placed third in the Louisson Handicap and fifth in the A. E. Laing Free-for-all at Addington in- his three other starts this season. Wee Win is one of five horses down to start from 20m today. Another, Rondel, will come in for close attention after a win and a third at Forbury Park. He will be driven by his Kumeu trainer, Peter Young, in the absence of Peter Wolfenden, who drove him at Forbury Park. Trevino, which beat Rondel at Alexandra Park last month and Sunseeker, which was runner-up in his two starts at Forbury Park, behind Rondel and Palestine,; seem most likely of the others. Sm'okey Lopez’s third to Trusty Scot and Scottish Heath in the Ashburton Flying Stakes on October 2 points to his chance today. An outside draw on the 120 m mark should help Lord i Module keep clear of any 1 early skirmishing and enable him to show his great abili ity to advantage. Joie de Vivre, which was ■ narrowly beaten after makI ing the pace on Saturday, is well placed to win the North Otago Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B. double. Haughty Romeo, which overcame an early break to finish third on Saturday, Staveley, which was late getting clear when fourth and the first-day winner, Lord Logan, make most, appeal of the others.
