Chance for Big Drum
Special correspondent Wellington One of the better bets on the card at the Marton Jockey Club’s ■meeting at Feildmg today could * be Big Drum in the first leg of I the T.A.B. double, the Puketoi I Handicap. i The gelded son of Bandmaster 111 cleared maidens three starts back over 1200 m, out should have no trouble in seeing out today’s trip of 2000 m. At the Awapuni fixture last week. Big Drum finished sixth, but had plenty to do in the home straight for ne was well back to the turn and fairly flew along once clear. With two outings behind her Brazen Princess should be fit enough to do herself justice and be the main danger to Big Drum. The mare ran fourth first up at the previous Marton fixture last month and though well beaten last time out will have benefited from that run. She has, too, been shaping nicely in training gallops. Marianas, sixth in a highweight event last time out, is another who will have benefited from three outings this term and she should be able to take care of the others.
