Slip threatens hill house

A Christchurch man des-' cribed yesterday how he and) his wife spent Saturday night terrified by the threat of a slip on to. their house in Mount Pleasant Road. Mr G. A. McDonald, of 117: Mount Pleasant Road, has! been trying to get the Christchurch City Council; and. the Christchurch Drainage Board to acknowledge ; responsibility for slip dam- ! age since a major slip on to ! the property in September | last year. ■ Since then, after every

heavy shower, Mr McDonald! has had to spend about two! hours shovelling away mud! and boulders from beside the wall of his house. The rain which ended yesterday morning caused about 150 mm of mud to form over a concrete footpath between the wall of the'

house and a steep which separates the house and the footpath of Mount Pleasant Road above. A few boulders came down with the mud and landed on the footpath next to the house,! but caused no damage. Mr McDonald says he will! take Court action against

the council, which has de-i nied liability. The two-storey house, di-1 vided into two ownership! flats, was bought by Messrs! McDonald and G. E. Felton ini 1970. Mr Felton was awayi for the week-end. He lost! his driveway in the storm of September last year.
