Sir, —1 fail to understand how J. A. Green (October 17) cannot have been called upon by members of the Labour Party during the last 27 years. For as long as Tom McGuigan was M.P. for Lyttelton a large number of Labour Party workers were involved in contacting electors, on Election Day at least, if not before. On the actual Election Day every household was systematically approached, some of them three or four times. Patty advertising is not allowed on Election Day, therefore lifts to the polls have to be offered without revealing party affiliations. Possibly this is why J. A. Green assumes that the Labour Party has not bothered to approach him. As for never having seen a member of Parliament other than Miss Dewe, Mr McGuigan . put in a lot of time standing on street corners talking to people and was always accessible to his electorate, unlike Miss Dewe who is often unable to be contacted. —Yours, etc., ROBYN LOVERIDGE. October 17, 1978.
