Tax policies
Sir, — A recent National Party tax pamphlet contains some gross inaccuracies and distortions of fact on which I feel obliged to comment. The pamphlet claims that, in its most recent term in office, Labour did “nothing” to reduce taxation. That is just not true. Tax rates were lowered, to my knowledge, twice under the third Labour Government. Also, Labour introduced tax rebates on home and farm ownership savings schemes. The pamphlet suggests that Labour’s tax policy will be financed, in part, "almost certainly by new capital gains and wealth taxes.” This is not true either. Neither of these taxes are part of Labour’s policy. There are a further 12 inaccuracies or distortions in this pamphlet, that I am aware of. There may be more. — Yours, etc., J. ROSIER. October 16, 1978.
