Careless driving

Sir, — We are sure that A. G. Phiskie and D. Limbra ick are both very capable bike-riding citizens, and that they indeed may have encountered some tricky situations while on their bikesHowever, we would like to assure them that the car drivers of Christchurch are not “out to get them” as they seem to imagine, but out to avoid them. On some mornings driving a car maybe likened to competing an obstacle course, and sometimes requires a great deal more skill. Bikes in general seem to have little or no respect for the road code, passing on the left, swerving from lane to lane to race traffic, and sneaking through or making lefthand turns on red lights. We have all ridden bikes for many years, and know the game well. We suggest that Mr Phiskie, who is obviously concerned for his safety, resorts to the public transport system for safe and reliable transport. He would save himself, and weary drivers like ourselves from the hazards he would appear to induce. —Yours, etc., B. THOMAS. K. DESMOND. B. MACLAURIN. | t October 9, 1978.
