“The churches and terrorism”

Sir, —- Mr Vincent (September 4) says that “the Church must practise what it preaches.” Our Lord’s first message was that we should love one another. Who is showing the most love, the African Christians with their peace and charity to the point of martyrdom, or the terrorists who attack them as traitors to nationalism? I have lived in Africa for 24 years, and I know how utterly bewildered and betrayed the Christians feel when they learn that those who attack them so mercilessly are supplied with food, comfort and arms by the World Council of Churches in conjunction with the Communist Powers. What on earth are we thinking of to allow this to happen? — Yours, etc., PENELOPE ALEXANDER, Hawarden. September 6, 1978.
