“The churches and terrorism"

Sir, — Commenting on David Vincent’s letter (September 4), the facts are that Rhodesia has now a multiracial transitional government with political moderates. The settlement took placi because the moderate black is a friend of the white Rhodesian, and experience has shown that he has the choice of living with a Rhodesian or Cuban, so the choice was obvious — a Rhodesian. In Rhodesia, I worked as a civilian assisting black people. Black families have been blown up by landmines laid by Mugabe’s terrorists. These people are now disfigured for life or dead. Mr Vincent says “the lesser of two evils” but

landmines do not select victims. If the W.C.C. supports this, then give $85,00C to Mugabe’s terrorists so that they can buy more AK-47 rifles and landmines to continue their barbaric atrocities — some people’s idea of lesser evil. It saddens me that our religious leaders have not studied the meaning of their faith. — Yours, etc., C. GARNER, September 4, 1978.
