B’ball win for N.Z.
NZPA-Reuter Cardiff New Zealand opened its campaign in the Commonwealth basketball championships in Meadowbank, Edinburgh, with a 79-68 win over Scotland. John van Uden scored 18 points for New Zealand and Stan Hili and John Rademakers 15 each. Top scorers for Scotland were Bobby Archibald (17) and Jim Mitchell (16). Wales won their second match at Cardiff, beating Northern Ireland, 71-59, to follow up Sunday’s 67-45 victory over Gibraltar. New Zealand’s next opponent will be Britain.
