Short season for toheroa
PA Wellington Toheroa diggers would have a limited open season for toheroa next month on four North Island and two South Island beaches, said the Minister of Fisheries (Mr Bolger) yesterday. Dargaville, Foxton, Waitarere North and Otaki beaches will be open for toheroas from Saturday, September 16 to Friday, Sept muer 22. Oreti Beach and Te Wae vae Bay in Southland will be open from Saturday, September 23 to Friday, September 29. Mr Bolger said that the reason for having different opening dates was to allow week-end diggers the chance to get their 10shellfish limit while the tides were right. Scientific surveys on known toheroa beaches showed reasonable stocks on the open beaches, he said.
