S.P.U.C. invites Congressman
PA Wellington A United States Congressman, Henry J. Hyde, will visit New Zealand this week at the invitation of the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child (S.P.U.C.). He will address a public meeting in Auckland on Monday, and on Tuesday will attend a Cabinet luncheon. He will also visit Labour members of Parliament and National Party backbenchers before addressing the Wellington branch of S.P.U.C. at its annual meeting. Congressman Hyde, who is a Republican, has been active on legislation on abortion. In June, 1976, he introduced into Congress what became known as the Hyde Amendment, which said that no Federal moneys should be used to pay for abortions. i The law, subsequently apI proved by Congress, perI mitted paid abortions only in cases of rape, incest, or I danger to the mother’s life ior health. | He will return to the 1 United States on Wednesday.
