PA Wellington The Technical Correspondence Institute at I Waiwhetu, Hutt Valley, j has stopped new enrol- ; ments until November 1, I because of a staff shortI age. : The institute’s principal, i a former Minister of Edu- > cation (Mr A. E. Kinsella) i said he had not been able i to arrange an appointment ; with the present Minister I (Mr Gandar) to discuss i the staff shortage. “We have made api proaches to the Education Department and the State Services Commission to get permission to replace staff who have left, but without success,” Mr Kinsella said. The ban will mean that the 250 students who would have been enrolled each week would now j have to wait until NovemI ber 1. | The institute which has : 32,500 students, is enter- ; ing the busiest phase of i its year. Mr Kinsella said that mail sorters, typists, illustrators and printers had been under the most pres- : sure. Staff had been coming I back to work in their own i time to clear the backlog i of work, and naturally, were beginning to feel a bit resentful at getting no more help, he said.
