Student rally
Sir, — The comments by Students’ Association officers, attacking my letter, about the “flop” their antiGovernment rally was, does not alter the fact that almost 98 per cent of staff and students did not attend the meeting. W. E. Wilmott was correct, when he said: “It
was the largest demonstration at the university for five years on an other than bursary issue.” This proves my point. Barely 2 per cent of staff and students felt strongly enough about the issue, to protest. D. M, Parry, by finding reasons to justify the disastrous attendance makes the matter worse. Neither he nor Peter McCombie answered my criticism that most students are critical of their executive officers for wasting too much time and money on political issues, instead of attending to student affairs and welfare. This would be the main reason for the almost non-attendance by students, and not the reasons of Mr Parry. — Yours, etc.,
