Car hijacked
PA Dunedin A woman and her six-year-old child were forced from a car at Moa Flat, in West Otago, last evening by a man brandishing a rifle. The Dunedin police and members of the armed offenders squad tailed the hijacked Vehicle from Lawrence to Dunedin. They arrested the driver when he stopped at a police station to give himself up.
Inspector J. Mathews said that several patrol cars took part in a highspeed chase from Lawrence. It is believed the woman stopped to give the man a lift and had driven several kilometres further when the incident occurred. A man, aged 26, will appear in the Magistrate’s Court in Dunedin today charged with firearm and driving offences.
