N.Z. junior weightlifting
PA Nelson 1 A strong upsurge in weightlifting was apparent at the New Zealand junior championships in Nelson, last week-end, when two national records were broken. They were lifts in the 75 kilogram middleweight class snatch of 102.5 kg by John Callaghan, of Nelson, and by Phillip Chappell. also of Nelson, in the bantamweight, with a total of 175 kg. Both are 17 years old. Lifting officials said that the standard set in the championships was extremely high. Winners were:— paperweight, Bobbie Van Gleet, (Wainuiomata) 107.5; fly, Grant Boyd, (Auckland) 145: bantam. Chappell (Nelson) 175; feather,
