Cheaper air fare
Sir, — Recently there was a news item concerning the possibility of Air New Zealand raising domestic fares. Over the last two or three years our domestic fares have been increased several times and the day will come when it will be cheaper to f 1 y Christchurch-Sydney than Christchurch-Auckland. The present ChristchurchAuckland fare is $5B single, $ll6 return. I believe Air New Zealand’s solution is to try to stabilise the present fares, and bring in cheap return fares: ChristchurchAuckland, $116; Christ-church-Auckland, one way,
$4B: return $96. The cheaper return fare would apply to the following conditions: (I) The ticket could only be purchased as a return. (21 Departure from Christchurch on an early morning flight. (3) Return to Christchurch late that night. The cheaper return fare would be most suitable for the person who might wish to travel to Auckland for a wedding or a funeral and only want to be away for a day.
