Farmers to peg costs?
About 2000 Southland farmers have decided to refuse to accept any increase in their stock killing and processing charges unless freezing companies and unions abide by disputes procedures. They urged their representative body, Federated Farmers, to appoint a fulltime industrial relations officer to work on their behalf.
A mass meeting at Rugby Park, Invercargill, was called by Federated Farmers (Southland) to discuss recent actions and negotiations in the freezing industry.
