Landing aids replaced
Instrument landing equipment at Christchurch Airport is too old to repair, so a system hired from Canada has been installed. A new system to replace it will arrive at the end of the year. “The original equipment is 15 years old and can no longer be maintained without creating long periods when it is out of use,” said the technical officer in charge of t e I ecommunications (Mr K. Pearson) yesterday. The rented equipment will not replace all of the old gear. Only the glide path element (which gives the pilot the angle of approach) and the localiser (which shows the aircraft’s position relative to the runway) have been replaced.
