The Automobile Association (Canterbury) is looking again at asking motor-ve-hicle dealers to display the duty content of new-car prices on price tags. It hopes that such a move (will gain public support for j the association’s campaign ’to reduce the taxation burjden on motorists. It says 'few people know how much Government duty raises the price of a new car. ; The association’s general ! manager (Mr E. S. Palliser), said yesterday that the Australian Government had recently reduced tax on all makes of cars assembled in Australia. This reduced the price of a new Ford Falcon by $5OO to $5500. In New Zealand the same car cost $lO,OOO The Canterbury association will ask other districts to report on the incidence of seat belts with slack fastenings. Mr J. R. Maling said that some makes of seat belts might not meet safety standards.
