$150,000 Telethon grant
Christchurch-based organ-, isations will get $19,000 from the latest allocation by the Mental Health Foundation of money from Telethon ’77. Gtants wall include $ 2000 to the Women’s Self centre, and $lOOO to the Women’s Refuge Centre.
More than $150,000 has been granted throughout New Zealand in the second and biggest allocation of Telethon funds. A $145,000 distribution was made in March, and the foundation has budgeted to spend up to $500,000 during 1978. So far, including its sponsorship of Mental Health Year and other activities, the foundation has com-
mitted about $416,000 of the S2.IM fund. The latest allocation, in 44 grants, includes more than $69,500 for community projects, $47,000 for education, and $33,000 for research. Besides the $19,000 going to Christchurch, $52,000 will be distributed in Auckland, $32,500 in Wellington, $15,000 in Dunedin, and i $20,000 in various parts of ■ the North Island. The foundation is also set-; [ting aside $lO,OOO each year' ! to support visiting special-1 lists. i ' The biggest grants are ■ $18,500 to the Psychiatry de-j partment at the Auckland; [School of Medicine, and; i 517,000 to the Lower Hutt!
