Vice Regal due to leave today

The good galloper Vice Regal and his unraced stablemates Tennille and Mistletoe are due to leave by air for Australia today. Vice Regal is to have the’ first race of his Australian campaign in the weight-for-age Freeway Stakes over 1200 m at Moonee Valley on Saturday. He suffered a slight setback recently with a ricked off front foot. And according to his trainer and part owner Mr J. W. Campin Vice Regal missed a few days work but sprinted well in training on Saturday and again yesterday. When working late in the morning at Cambridge he clocked Imin 2sec for 1000 m the last 600 m in 38sec, the best of the morning at the distance. Mr Campin said “the setback was unfortunate and he is still a bit burly but improving all the time and we

are anxious to run this week as 1200 m is a suitable opportunity to start with.”

R. C. Lang will travel over tomorrow to take the mount and will return home on Sunday. Mr Campin said that Vice Regal was not now likley to run in the Liston Stakes at Sandown over 1400 m a week later but would be given good time to get over his first race. Lang will return to ride him in later events with the horses programme involving mainly weight-for-age racing. Mistletoe is a filly by Attallus out of the former fine race mare Dryandra and was purchased by Mr Campin at Adelaide sales. Tennille is by Bismark II out Florida Inn which was purchased at Sydney sales a few years ago. Tennille is quite forward and will be racing shortly but Mistletoe is not likely to make her debut until Octobu..
