Blue Sage favoured at race trials
By J. J. BOYLE Blue Sage came strongly into favour for the second leg of the Oamaru Jockey Club’s T.A.B. double next Monday with an easy win over 1200 metres at race and qualifying trials held by the Riccarton Turf Club at Riccarton yesterday. In the sprint for classes I,| 2 and 3 horses, Blue Sage cruised up to win by four! lengths from Aramis. Chiltern Blaze and Savaro were, almost right up in line with! the runner-up with runs thatl also held promise for theii : prospects this season. Blue Sage won for the Riccarton stable of A. J. and; Peter Williams at the Am-} berley meeting last May. He’ was unable to improve his winning record in later starts, but his run yesterday’ was evidence that he has 1 freshened well, and he should be capable of a bold sprint at Oamaru, where he is owned. Aramis won the Canter® bury Jockey Club’s Champagne Stakes last autumn, and should be in for another good season. Salvaro, the major winner for Brydon Mills’s stable last seaon, is being pointed
for the South Island Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes. She was a close fourth in that race last spring, then went on to win the Miss Scenicland Stakes at Hokitika. Rosie’s Boy was a comfortable winner of a 1600 m event for all classes yesterday, with Lady Belinda lasting for second ahead of the faster-finishing Debreter. One of the most interesting of the other runners seen out yesterday was lonian Sea, winner of the C.J.C. Welcome Stakes last season. Yesterday, Mr Jack Thwaites’s Beaufort Sea filly was not at full stretch to finish second a length from Nyah in a 1000 m event for class 4 and 5 performers. Nyah won in 60.6 sec, and also did her work well. She will probably race for the Mills’s stable at the Eastern Southland Hunt Club’s meeting at Gore.
