L.E.B. spreads in Canada

UEB Industries, Ltd, will open a carpet showroom in Toronto next month, signalling the start of a concerted campaign to penetrate the rich market in eastern Canada. This follows a successful sales drive in the western provinces of British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan during the past three years. Tuionto, a city of three .million people and with notable sophistication, will be the springboard for selling pressure aimed particularly at architects and mterior designers and decorators. “Since being launched in (Western Canada, our carpet sales have do .bled and redoubled in two years, and! are expected to climb a further 40 per cent this!

year,” said UEB’s managing director (Mr G. S. Phillips). “This market will continue to grow, but the sales potential in eastern Canada is a lot greater and we are going after it in’a determined way. We took our all-wool carpet into Ontario, which has almost a third of Canada’s total population, 18 months ago and sales have built up steadily. “A base has been established,” said Mr Phillips, “and we will now strengthen our marketing so we can really move ahead in the whole of the east — Mani-: toba, Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces.” He added that UEB was; looking at the top end of the total Canadian market.: Carpets made from synthetic yarns held a k.rge proportion: but there was a growing de-1 mand among Canadians for!

an all-wool product in line ; with the worldwide trend towards commodities made from natural materials. “Many people who buy all-wool carpet engage specialist interior designers to handle the decor scheme for their homes and this is the area where our marketing promotion will be most heavily directed.” said Mr Phillips. He added that once UEB had established its showroom and base in Toronto, agents and dealer outlets would be organised, followed by a substantial advertising and promotional campaign aimed at the top income bracket. “We view the expansion into eastern Canada as highly i important for the company I in its efforts to increase car-j pet exports worldwide,” he said.
