Food costs rise 10 p.c. in year
[PA Wellington ] New Zealanders are pay]ing 10.7 per cent more for I their food than they were a [year ago. Statistics Department i figures show that food prices I last month were 0.7 per cent [higher than in June, and 110.7 per cent higher than in [July, 1977. I The July increase of 0.7 ; per cent was the lowest i monthly rise since March ] when food prices rose 0.5 per cent, and was well ; below the June increase of ' 1.6 per cent. I The 10.7 per cent rise in the average level of food prices in the year to July, 1978, compares with a 17.7 per cent rise in the year to July, 1977. Meat, fish and poultry were responsible for 77.4 per cent of the 0.7 per cent July ] rise in average food price ; levels, and fruit and vegetables were responsible for 123.9 per cent.
