A new scholarship will be awarded to a child whe shows enthusiasm and potential in music. It is the Robert Perns Scholarship Fund, started by Mrs Helga Newson, oi Christchurch. Mrs Newson decided that Mr Robert Perks, who began the Christchurch School of Instrumental Music 25 years ago, should not “just step out and walk away” when he retired. To remember him she has given $lOOO, which will be the nucleus of the fund. She has invited other persons to add to it. “The scholarship will be awarded each year to a promising student of the C.S.I.M and will pay for free private lessons for one year to give that child an extra boost,” Mrs Newson said.
