Rangers hold lead in soccer
Rangers continue to lead the Broadlands Southern League soccer competition after its 3-1 win over Shamrock at Riccarton Domain on Saturday. Goals by Luke Camphens, Malcolm Parker and Steve Dunn gave Rangers the win. Peter Schuyt scored for Shamrock from the penalty spot. Shamrock could well have drawn the match had Stan Woolliscroft not blasted the ball high over the cross-bar from point-blank range near the end of the game when Rangers led, 2-1. Caversham maintained its handy position with a 1-0 win over Technical, while CashmereWanderers beat New Brighton, 3-1, at Somerfield Park. Brighton led, 1-0, at half-time after Wayne Whittington had scored. However, two goals from Robbie Noster and another from Doug Jury gave Cashmere its seventh win of the season. Western had a narrow win over the bottom-placed Northern Hearts team, 3-2, in Timaru. BROADLANDS SOUTHERN
