Vital soccer for Chch sides
By
DAVID LEGGAT
Both Christchurch Rothmans -Soccer League teams have difficult matches in the week-end’s round of matches, one desperately needing points and the other playing a side in the same position. Wooiston Working Men’s Club, which has lost its last four matches, will meet Blockhouse Bay at Garrick Park tomorrow and, should it lose, will have a tremendous struggle to avoid relegation.
With the exception of Laurie Blyth, who pulled a muscle in training this week, the Wooiston squad is at full strength. Wooiston must play well if it is to beat Blockhouse, one of the most difficult sides to take points off in the whole competition. Trans Tours United will travel north to play Hamilton. The northern side is one of the bottom three and, unless it does something drastic soon, is almost certain to be relegated. In other matches, Courier Rangers will play Stop Out and Columbus Waterside will meet Nelson United, both today, while tomorrow Eastern Suburbs will play Mount Wellington in a vital match and Wellington Dia-
mond United will meet North Shore.
: Canterbury’s junior repre- • sentative soccer teams will ; all play at Burnham tomorrow in what is traditionally known as “Canterbury Day.” Three teams, the under-12, under-14, and under-16 are the current national tournament champions, while the under-11, under-13, and under-15 teams are the South Island’s top sides. The matches are: Under-11 v. Burnham, Under-12 v. Under-12 B, Under-13 v. Under-14, Under-15 v. Under-16.
