Rugby talks work
PA Nelson The management of the Australian rugby team reached an amicable accord with New Zealand Rugby Football Union personnel in talks on law interpretation in Nelson, yesterday.
The Australian team was represented in the discussions by the manager, Mr Ross Turnbull, coach Mr Daryl Haberecht, captain Tony Shaw and the vice-cap-tain in the series against Wales, Paul McLean. The N.Z.R.F.U. delegation included the chairman of the referees’ appointments sub-committee, Mr Bob Stuart, and the international
referee, Mr Peter McDavitt. The meeting was initiated by the chairman of the N.Z.R.F.U., Mr Ces Blazey, and was aimed at helping the Australian team iron out any problems on law interpretation. “As a result of the meeting any elements of doubt we had relating to the interpretation of the laws have been removed,” Mr Turnbull said.
One of the problems the Wallaby side had found during its tour of the British Isles in 1975-76 was that it took six or seven games to eliminate the problems of interpretation.
