No wheat rise
PA Ashburton i There would definitely be no increase in the basic price of wheat for the 197879 season, the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Adam s-Schneider) said yesterday. The Ashburton branch of Federated Fanners had sought an increase in the basic price for the 1978-79 season from $127.50 per tonne to $l3O per tonne.
The Cabinet had decided that the price originally set was adequate and fair, said Mr Adams-Schneider. “It was $2.50 short of the price asked for by growers, and this is the closest we have ever come to their asking price,” he said. There is still a possibility that the 10 per cent discount on karamu wheat may be reviewed, however.
