U.S. beef quota up?
i NZPA Washington President Carter has ; said that he might 1 order another increase in United States beef import ji quotas. c| He also told American : l cattlemen, who visited the ’ White House to discuss the Administration’s anti--1 inflation programme, that 1 he would not suspend j quotas or freeze beef , prices — under any cirf| cumstances. Mr Carter told the I group he might very well
raise quotas again, following his decision last month to increase the annual quota of 585 M kilo- ' grams by 90M kilograms. The cattlemen had been disturbed by the decision, I but were pleased to learn that Mr Carter did not intend to susoend quotas or to freeze beef prices. Beef prices, which have | risen about 19 per cent in the last year, are expected to rise substantially again in the United States in the !, next two weeks. 1
