Red Cross veteran dies, aged 91

The secretary-general of the New Zealand Red Cross Society for 41 years, Mr Malcolm Scott Galloway, 0.8. E., J.P., has died in Christchurch. He was 91.

Mr Galloway was appointed director of occupational and vocational training for the Defence Department after World War I. He also served o- the executive of the Disabled Servicemen’s League. He became secretary-trea-surer of the New Zealand branch of the British Red Cross Society and of the Order of St John, and later secretary-general of the New Zealand Red Cross Society.

I He was awarded the order !of merit by the Japanese

and Dutch Red Cross societies for helping with relief after flood disasters in those countries in 1954 and 1956. He received the 0.8. E. in 1961 for community services.

Mr Galloway was a Wellington City Councillor from 1943 until 1950, and was a member of the Wellington He pital Board for three years.

He was a keen sportsman, and swam daily until his late seventies. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs R. D. Grant of Dunedin, and two sons, Mr I. T. Galloway, principal of St Andrew’s College, and Mr J. M. Galloway, finance manager for the Odlin group of companies.
