South Island promotion
Sir, — The meeting of combined business and employee representatives to discuss ways and means of boosting our sagging economy in Canterbury achieved a positive breakthrough, largely because of the prevailing non-partisan non-party political atmosphere, after Miss Dewe’s departure. We should all give credit where credit is due. The business community and others trust and appreciate the integrity of Michael Connelly in his continuing fight for greater recognition of Canterbury and the South Island in their struggle for economic survival. It is not surprising, therefore that he should take the initiative to convene this important meeting in a nonparty attitude, bringing to bear his twenty two years of political experience in matters economic. — Yours, etc., H. R. PEERS. July 12, 1978.
