Youths die
Two youths were killed in a motor-cycle accident on State Highway 72 near Tuahiwi Road, Woodend, about 11.30 p.m. on Saturday. They were: Craig Brent Southby, aged 18, of 8 Charles Street, Kaiapoi. the rider, and Tony Raymond Williams, aged 19, of 12 West Belt, Rangiora. The youths were riding south-east and were over-
taking a car on a bend when the motor-cycle went out of control. Mr Williams was killed instantly and Mr Southby died at the scene soon after. Both were wearing crash helmets. The Rangiora rescue unit and a Belfast doctor attended the accident. The Italian-made Laverda 1000 cu cm motor-cycle followed the line of a barbed wire fence until it came to rest after hitting a gate. It was not badly damaged.
