$1M cold store opened
1 Special correspondent London A SIM cold store for New Zealand lamb was opened in Sussex yesterday by the British Minister of Agriculture. Fisheries and Food (Mr Silkin). The store, at Pease Pottage, near Crawley, Sussex, is owned by Producers Meats i London) Ltd, the wholly owned subsidiary of Producers Meats, Ltd, Auckland. Consisting of four separate chambers with a total capacity of 230,000 cubic feet, it will store lamb carcases and provide facilities for public cold storage, and i ustom cutting and wrapping of lamb for supermarket It represented “a signifi-
cant long-term investment” in the future of the United Kingdom lamb market for New Zealand sheep farmers, said Mr W. Leonard, managing director of Producers Meats, Auckland. “It is a measure of their confidence in retaining their access to the principal traditional outlet for their products, a retention which is vital to the survival of the New Zealand economy,” Mr Leonard said. “*f there is any furthe’ disruption in the normal trading methods for lamb in the United Kingdom and supplies are curtailed by a ruling from the European Economic Community, the effects on the New Zealand economy would be disastrous," he said
