38-42 after 10 minutes. Kim Smith, who earlier had been closely marked, then found the basket regularly for Rangiora after Karen Atchison and Brenda Fortune had set up play well. Mairehau’s Jenny Armstrong played her usually steady game and Andrea Taylor made her first apeparance noticed. Young Caroline Perry put in a lot of work, especially in the first half. CHECKERS A 81, UNITED A 28 Checkers had full command in the earlier game against United and was a comfortable winner. It effectively boxed out United’s Heather Carr who regularly scores 20 points a game, limiting her to six points. Checkers effort was a good team one with Sharon Constable and Heather Morrison scoring regularly in the first half. Sally Cox and Sharon Rcnnell control led play excellently from the rear and United could find no answei to Checkers’ tactics. Checkers led 23-6 after 10 minutes and increased this to 39-12 at half-time. This pattern continued in the second half and after six minutes. Checkers rested its two Canterbury representatives.
